The Turtle Island Park lies 40km north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea. The park is a safe haven for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles and give syou the rare opportunity to watch turtle landings. Selingan, the largest of the islands, houses the park's headquarters, a turtle hatchery, tourist accommodation and basic facilities. 

As turtle landings usually occur after dusk, an overnight stay would be the best plan to see the turtles as they come ashore to lay their eggs, but shining a light on them or using camera flashes should be avoided as either can be stressful on the creatures.

Turtles lay their eggs throughout the year, but the best time to head there is between July and October when the sea is calmer. Observe the collection of eggs, tagging of mother turtles and releasing of baby turtles into the sea.

The Marine Park is a cluster of islands; Pulau Gaya, Pulau Sapi, Pulau Manukan, Pulau Mamutik and Pulau Sulug. Pulau Gaya hosts the Gayana Eco Resort, Bunga Raya Resort and the Gaya Island resprt by YTL. Visits to these premises require prior bookings. Pulau Sapi, Manukan and Mamutik host beach activities as well as snorkeling and diving. Island tours can be booked on the spot at the Jesselton Jetty except for diving which requires prior arrangements with a dive center. Island hopping is also an alternative.

The Rungus people live in longhouses built on stilts, but the shift to modern-day living has meant that the sight of such longhouses are getting more rare. In Kg Bavanggazo near Tinangol in the Kudat district, you can still experience this fascinating communal lifestyle in a puprpose-built longhouse constructed entirely of traditional materials but with added modern comforts like toilets and showers.

This dramatic headland is situated in the northern-most tip of Borneo, the third largest island in the world, after Greenland and New Guinea. It is located in the Kudat Peninsula, about theree and a half hours ( or 215 kilometres ) drive from Kota Kinabalu City.
